New York rooms ask more of a DJ

A Fifth Avenue ballroom, a pre-Civil War Brooklyn warehouse, a rooftop with the skyline for a backdrop — New York City weddings happen in some of the most demanding rooms in the country, and each one changes how the music has to work. Sound that fills a landmark ballroom without fighting its marble. A rooftop set that respects the building’s sound rules and still moves the floor. A load-in that fits a Manhattan venue’s window to the minute.

Genesis has curated wedding entertainment from our Flatiron office at 22 West 21st Street since 2008. We know the city’s rooms, their house rules and their sound, and we bring the same open-format DJs, bilingual MCs and live musicians to a 60-guest loft as to a 500-guest ballroom.

The Experience

Sound that knows the room

Every New York venue has its own acoustics, its own load-in window and its own sound policy. We plan for all three before the day: a site visit or venue call, a sound design sized to the room, and a timeline built with your planner and the venue’s team.

On the night, your DJ works from that plan with a host and, if you choose, live musicians — so a Manhattan ballroom, a Brooklyn loft and a Queens rooftop each get the set they deserve.

04.25.2026 we had our wedding at Bayview. Unico did an absolute amazing job. He exceeded my expectations in so many different ways. I had very precise instructions on how I wanted dinner to go (rnb sing a long style) and instead of delivering just that, he had everyone up dancing to the rnb play list. Genesis took our wedding to the absolute next level - they managed music throughout the night, ranging from a string quartet at ceremony to a jazz trio at cocktail hour to percussion / DJ (Raz) / MC at reception. Damian and Angelina at Genesis totally understood our lofty assignment of a tri-cultural wedding with Persian, Indian, American music. They gave extra prep to the ethnic musics ahead of time, reviewing our song lists and listening/prepping sets. Angelina helped us design our custom DJ booth to match the room. We had an incredible experience with Genesis Events from start to finish. They were the preferred vendor for our venue, and I can see why! We initially met with Dario who gave us our proposal and all the information we needed to make a decision. The meeting with him was so thorough! Throughout the planning, Angelina (name twins!!) was our contact, and she was great! She helped finalize all the little details during our final meeting (which was great because I am so indecisive) and came up with such a pretty design for our Photo Booth! The night of the wedding was amazing. Fabio was our MC and DJ Raz was our DJ. They were both fantastic! Fabio was fun and kept the energy up for all of our guests. He did a great job getting everyone up and dancing for the Tarantella! Before the guests came into the reception room, he quickly went over all the details with us to make sure everything went smoothly. The music provided by DJ Raz was great! We danced so much, our dance floor was never empty, right through to the final song of the night. He played all of our "must haves" and quite a few of our "inspo" list, and some that I didn't even think of but were perfect for our crowd of guests! Truly a wonderful experience with Genesis Events, thank you so much!!

Do you DJ weddings across all of New York City?

Yes — Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens most often, plus the Bronx and Staten Island, Westchester and the tri-state area. Our office is in Flatiron and most of our weddings are within an hour of it.

Do you know our venue?

Very likely. We have played many of the city’s landmark rooms — see the venue pages for the rooms we know best — and for a venue new to us we arrange a call or site visit in advance to plan sound, load-in and timeline with their team.

What about rooftop or terrace sound limits?

Many New York venues have sound policies and end times, especially outdoors. We design the sound to the venue’s rules and the room’s size so the floor stays full without a complaint from the building.

Can the DJ perform with a bilingual MC or live musicians?

Yes. Most Genesis weddings pair the DJ with a dedicated host, and many add live saxophone, percussion or strings over the set — one team on one timeline.

How far in advance should we book a NYC wedding DJ?

For peak-season Saturdays we recommend booking nine to twelve months ahead, as prime dates are reserved early.

How much does a wedding DJ cost in NYC?
