8 NYC Wedding Venues With Skyline Views

Skyline venues photograph like nothing else, and they come with their own rules: glass reflects sound, rooftops have wind and curfews, and lighting has to be planned so the room doesn’t turn into a mirror after dark. These are the eight we play most often as a NYC wedding DJ team, from the highest floor in the city to Brooklyn and Queens rooftops looking back at Manhattan. Manhattan

PEAK is on the 101st floor of 30 Hudson Yards, with views in every direction and nothing above you. It is the highest wedding venue in New York and it is engineered for events, so full production is straightforward. We light the room low and warm so the city stays the brightest thing in it.

The Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center is 65 floors up with the revolving dance floor and the Empire State Building in the window. The room has its own glamour; the music should honour it early and open up later.

Tribeca Rooftop is a penthouse and terrace under the downtown skyline, with a large indoor space that makes it usable in every season. It is a full-production room where a designed DJ booth or stage becomes part of the look.

The Glasshouse on the far West Side has terraces over the Hudson and a huge glass-walled event floor. It is the city’s most production-ready venue for LED walls and light shows, and it suits couples who want the reception to feel like an event.

Brooklyn

The William Vale in Williamsburg is ceremony-on-the-roof, reception-in-the-ballroom. The rooftop view of Manhattan is the postcard; we run sound on both floors and hand off so the music is continuous as guests move. More on Williamsburg in our Brooklyn venues guide.

Dobbin St has a private rooftop over McCarren Park with the skyline behind it and a minimalist loft below. The white interior takes colour lighting beautifully.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge gives you the bridge and lower Manhattan from the rooftop and the ballroom, with hotel rooms for guests.

Queens

Ravel Hotel in Long Island City has a Penthouse with a retractable roof, a Grand Ballroom and rooftops with the East River and Midtown directly in front of you. The retractable roof solves the weather problem that every other rooftop has.

Planning a skyline wedding

Wind and weather. Every open rooftop needs a rain plan and, for the ceremony, wireless microphones and speakers set for the wind. Ask what the indoor backup looks like before you sign.

Curfews. Rooftops in residential neighbourhoods often have volume limits or an early cut-off outdoors. The party moves inside, so plan the timeline with the indoor room as the finale, not the roof.

Glass. After dark, glass walls mirror whatever is lit inside. We keep the room’s lighting low and aimed at the floor and tables so the view stays the backdrop, and we position the DJ booth and any LED wall where they won’t reflect in the photographs.
